Project REV DIY #1

It's been six years since last time I used the sewing machine. Now it's time go give it a go again!

I’ve been bragging about it for some time now. Starting in July I kind of talked myself into this project of making a new REV for the Danish Quad Clinic in September.

But ya know… So much to do… So little time. No new REV in the bag for the clinic. But I haven’t changed my mind. I am going to dig out the old sewing machine, blow the dust off it and see if I still remember how to use it.

They say to get started is the hardest part. But today I finally put a few other things away and got things going!

First I assembled one of my REVs to take a closer look at the details. You know, to get a grip on the nitty-gritty.

After having had a close inspection of the kite with all its details, I was ready to make the pattern templates. I put a large piece of paper on the floor, put the kite flat on top of it and drew the outline.

Then I cut it out using a pair of scissors and after completion, I rolled it all up.

Next step is to transfer the templates on to stiffer and more durable cardboard sheets and start cutting the icarex.

…and of course, the building process will be covered here at AERIALIS Kites!

  1. Yes. This will be one of sources I look on when resume my limited kite sewing. At the beginning of the year I was also very rusty in this aspect – had not been doing any sewing since… …school, so I decided to do a read up/tests on the topic by/when sewing a model (Speed Wing) mini kite:

I look forward to seeing this process and your thoughts about the realization of the details. Perhaps any comments on choices of details where it differs from those of the Freedom 2000? (yes, a bit of a selfish request):
