Capto Venti is Latin for 'grab the wind'. That's what I do, I'm grabbing the wind for all it's worth!

Every now and then people ask me why I fly kites, and I try to explain. It’s my form of therapy, connecting to the elements and disconnecting from the world for a while.

And there’s not much that can compare to fly a light wind kite in really light winds. You know, only a slight breeze coming in from the sea. Just barely enough to keep your kite in the air. You’re more into guiding the kite rather than fly it, interpreting the wind and become one with both your kite and the elements.

My favourite flying spot is changing all the time based on the tide. Some times at high tide, there’s just enough land to fly and I must watch my steps not going into the water. When the low tide sets, slowly the sand banks are revealed and large and shallow ponds make for a lot of fun with your kite. Then finally, when the tide is at its lowest, the water has retreated completely having left the sand banks a perfect flying ground.

The video below was shot while I had the shallow water to play with, really connecting the elements, the wind, the water, the kite and my soul! Capto Venti!
