A Kite With No Name … Yet

I finally found some time to add some stabilising vertical ribbons to remedy the sail flutter. Yesterday I was ready for test flight #2!

After the first test flight i found several issues with the kite. First of all the ribbons fluttered quite a bit, so this surely had to be remedied. My choice was to add ‘vertical’ ribbons for stability in the ‘sail’. Yesterday I found enough time to add these ribbons to the kite.

Yesterday was windy as hell too, making for good conditions for a second test flight of this experimental high wind kite and things definitely improved!

Getting there!

The flutter was gone and it’s general flying characteristics much better!

However, there’s still more to be done. I felt the kite is still a bit twitchy and not as stable as I would like it to be. I guess the bridle needs a bit more tweaking and I might also try to fit it with a somewhat stiffer leading edge, because the current one (SkyShark P300) seems to deform a little too much, especially when the heavy gusts hit.

So…

Stay tuned for more info as soon as test flight #3 is done!
