John Barresi makes it look so easy! Gotta give it a try!

So what is he making look easy, you may ask. Well, the answer is simple, flying a quad with one hand only!

So how do you do it?

Again it’s no big deal. You grab the handles almost like they were chopsticks and off you fly!

Off course it will take you years of practice to reach John’s level, but it doesn’t have to take that long until you at least can fly your quad back and forth in the wind window. And with a bit of practice, you can do some more stuff…

First *real* stab at one hand flying

  1. Do we have a quick learner there?! When I started with one hand flying it only for learning how to control the kite better when (well just before) doing catches. It took a while before I went upside down with the kite – I think I should add a couple of minutes of one handed piloting (alternating right and left hand) to each session…

    1. It kind of came as a surprise that I was able to fly the kite reasonably well one handed.

As I mention in the blog post, this was the first time I tried one handed flying for real . Yes, I’ve done it when setting up for catches, but not really for flying like I did this time.

Once you get a kind of hang on how to hold the handles (chop stick style) steering the kite wasn’t that hard really and speed control was also well within reach. The first dive and stop happened more or less by accident, but it looked good so I gave it a few more goes. They worked pretty consistantly. 🙂 …and it was big fun doing them! 🙂
