Pink Project, Initial Flight!

Yesterday I finished the Pink Project kite but it was too dark for the initial flight. Today however, rise and shine, out to fly!

I woke up early and checked the weather forecast. Yes! No rain and a 3-4m/sec wind coming in from the north. A quick glimpse out of the window revealed the forecast was spot on so almost before I knew, I was on the beach ready for the Pink Project’s initial flight!

Yeah, the wind coming in pretty undisturbed and making for good flying conditions. I started by rolling out a 30m line set, assembled the kite and attached it to the lines. Before flight, I shot a couple of photos….

Then some flying! …and a lot of bridle adjustment!

I saw it straight away. The first setting would be unflyable, way, way too little break. A quick adjustment band the kite took to the air, but didn’t fly well at all!

So I had to do quite a lot of walking up and down to the kite tweaking and tuning the bridle and after some time the kite was flying much better!

…and I was ready to shoot some video!

Pink Project – Initial Flight

However, I’m not satisfied with the kite’s flying characteristics so more tweaks are required. It’s still somewhat difficult to do inversed hovers and inversed slides. The kite is not as crisp breaking as I’d like it to be and it has a generally somewhat … well … twitchy feel.

So I need to do some more tweaks to the bridle. I have a few ideas I want to try and I’ll do some control measures too to see that everything is in complete synch.

When packing up the kite I also noticed that the down spars seemed a little too short, so I’ll make another little longer pair.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Pink Project after some more tweaking! ?
