A Few Pretty Bad Photos

With a dying wind I jumped into the car and headed for the beach to test the KAP rig.

Speed limits? What speed limits? I need to get to the beach before the wind dies!

Offshore and dying winds but I got to the beach and started to rig the … rig! I had chosen a decent sized Rokkaku to lift the KAP rig and soon it was high up in the air. It was a bit difficult to launch, but when I got it higher than the turbulence it rose quickly up to a decent height. Then I attached the rig to the line and fixed the video camera.

Hmmm…. I’d hoped for a little more winds because the Rok had big trouble lifting the added weight. I got it up about 6-8 meters off the ground but the kite struggled to keep everything aloft.

So I brought it all down and decided to give it one more go aiding the kite by walking upwind. Up again and I started to walk slowly upwind. It kind of worked. The kite lifted the rig higher up, but soon I was running out of field and had to bring the rig and the kite safely back down on to the groud.

I got a few (pretty bad) photos though, but the nest time I’m looking for a little stronger and onshore breeze.

Stay tuned!
